Reduce Stress this Christmas

Hello. It won’t be a surprise or news to a lot of people, but Christmas can be a stressful time, and here we are just coming up to Christmas. It’s 2025 and I wanted to speak about stress. How to de stress from an Earth Wisdom perspective.

For some of us, we’re on our own at Christmas, we might feel lonely, might have the thought that everybody else is having a great time, or we might remember loved ones who are no longer with us in form. We might be feeling grief. Or we might have these high expectations to provide everything when we go shopping, just get one more thing, or make sure we’ve got absolutely everything for the meal.

I can remember being in the supermarket and witnessing this woman have a complete meltdown because there was no double cream left. There was single cream. There may even have been triple cream, but there was no double cream, and she had a complete you know ‘Christmas was cancelled’. So we have these high expectations. And you know, the atmosphere in the supermarket, in the shops, it can be like a frenzy.

Now, from an Earth Wisdom point of view, we’re part of a field of consciousness. There are very few, if any, humans here with me at the moment. I’m just surrounded by trees. It’s very calming. But when we’re at the shops, we’re in a field of consciousness with many other humans, and that field can affect us, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically. Or we can affect the field.

When we come into calmness, we are resonating with a vibration of calmness that brings the field into a calmer place. It’s like we are like tuning forks, and if we resonate at a high vibration, we will be affecting the field around us. So how do we come into calmness? For me two things. One, connecting with the essence self, the life force within. In the present moment. So when I come into present moment awareness, that creates spaciousness within, and I’m less driven by the atmosphere that can be frantic around me.

So for me, my little tip is three conscious breaths. Breathing in and out. In and out. In and out. Just noticing and being with the breath in the moment brings me into deeper consciousness, deeper connection, with the essence self, the infinite self. And the biggest gift we can give to anybody during Christmas or at any time, is being really present with them, with our deep essence self. Heart open. Deep listening. That’s the biggest gift we can give to anybody.

As a kid, I always wanted to open the presents. I couldn’t wait for Christmas Day to open my presents, and then the next day, they’d be gone. Well, I’d still have them, but there was nothing to look forward to, and I was always thinking ahead. My attention was in the future, an imagined future, instead of being here, now, in the moment. So give yourself some space during Christmas, is my recommendation, if you can get out into nature. If you can’t get out into nature, take a five minute break. Imagine yourself in the woods. Take some conscious breathing, and just allow yourself to resonate with the, with the tuning fork within you, and the high vibration. It will help the field of energy around you to settle and stay calm. Thank you.

Earth Wisdom Teachings FAQs:

How can I quickly reduce stress when Christmas feels overwhelming?

The simplest practice Carlos suggests is three conscious breaths:

  • Pause whatever you’re doing. Take time out, and if necessary go into another room.
  • Breathe in and out slowly three times, consciously paying attention only to your breath.
  • Let your awareness rest in the present moment rather than in worries about the past or future.

This brief reset creates inner spaciousness so you’re less affected by the frantic atmosphere around you.

What does it mean to be part of a “field of consciousness,” and how does that help with stress?

From an Earth Wisdom perspective, we’re all part of a shared field of consciousness.

  • Busy places (like supermarkets at Christmas) can feel chaotic because we’re sensing the stress of others. When you notice how the field is, you’re more aware so you can be less affected by it.
  • When you come into calmness and presence, you “tune” yourself like a calm tuning fork, which can gently help settle the emotional field around you.

In practice, this means your inner state doesn’t just help you – it positively influences others too.

What practical things can I do if I’m lonely, grieving, or can’t get out into nature at Christmas?
  • Be present with yourself. Take a 5-minute break to sit quietly, breathe consciously, and feel your own presence with an open heart.

  • Use your imagination. If you can’t go outside, image yourself in the woods, on the beach or in nature, and combine that with slow, conscious breathing.
  • Offer presence as a gift. Whether you’re alone or with others, the greatest gift is deep listening and genuine presence, rather than perfect plans or presents.
