Samhain the Celtic festival at the end of the Celtic year.

Samhain

Earth Wisdom Teachings the world over recognise that energy is always moving in cycles, that there are rhythms and cycles, like the year or the cycle of the seasons. Like the pulse in our blood, the many cycles that take place in our body. And even larger cycles, like the precession of the equinox 26,000 years. And even greater than that, cycle of the galaxies as they move around in the heavens, amazing.

So I’m mentioning this now because here in the northern hemisphere, we’re moving into the dark time, the inward time of the year, the time of falling leaves. And we’re coming towards Samhain, the Celtic festival at the end of the Celtic year.

So there are many ways of celebrating Samhain, Halloween in the modern parlance. But here’s one simple ceremony that we can do.

We can take, make time to create a ceremonial space, perhaps light some candles, make it beautiful, and take time to drop within. Go into a dreamy space and just think about the year that’s just passed, and what is the harvest of learning that you’re gathering from this?

What are the main events that have impacted you, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically, and what is the learning that you’ve gathered so far from those.

And what I like to do is actually do some drawing and create a symbol like this. I like to do it in a circle. And all these are symbols of the events of the year that came before, and they represent different things that happened in my life, and some of the learning is yet to come. But by doing this process, we gather more of that power to ourselves, and it’s a great way of celebrating alongside all the other trick or treat, whatever they are, connecting with the ancestors. But this is a really good way to gather the learning and start to reap that harvest. Thanks for watching.

FAQs

What exactly is Samhain and why is it important?

Samhain is the Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest season and deepening into the darker half of the year. It’s a time for reflection, honouring ancestors, and gathering the harvest of spiritual and emotional learnings from the past year.

How do I create a ceremonial space for this reflection?

Choose a quiet space, indoors or out, where you won’t be interrupted or distracted. Make it beautiful. You could decorate with flowers or autumn leaves, light candles, create and prepare drawing materials. The goal is to create a peaceful environment that allows you to drop into a meditative, introspective state.

What should I focus on during this inner wisdom ceremony?

Reflect on the significant events of the past year that impacted you emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically. Notice what you’ve learned and are learning from these experiences and how they are empowering you. Draw symbols representing these experiences and the lessons you’ve learned, helping you process and integrate your personal growth.
